Markings to be applied to SANS conforming Treated Timber Products:

The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) was founded 75 years ago, September 1945. At the time, the massive post-war rebuilding effort by the major powers was undertaken with growing recognition of the need to manufacture products to a common and agreed set of standards.

Markings to be applied to products conforming to SANS 457, 753 or 754 (controlling all aspects of the product, not only treatment penetration and retention):

Place SANS code number
(eg. 457 F) directly below the symbol.
See table below - black “Markings for SANS”
For any hazard class (H2 to H6)
SANS 457-2 is for Softwood and 457-3 for Hardwood
SANS 753 and 754 are for telephone and transmission poles.
